Central America Travel Guides

Central America ended up being one of the biggest surprises of my travels. Before this trip, I expected to have favorite countries and others I’d simply pass through. Instead, each stop offered something completely different, from modern skylines and colonial cities to volcanoes, rainforests, and Pacific beaches.

Rather than rushing through the region to check countries off a list, these guides focus on what each destination actually felt like, what surprised me most, and how I’d plan the trip if I were doing it again. They’re organized by country so you can compare destinations, build your own itinerary, and decide which places deserve more than just a quick stop.

🇵🇦 Panama

Panama was supposed to be little more than the starting point for this trip. Instead, Panama City became one of the biggest surprises of my entire journey, with a mix of history, modern skylines, incredible seafood, and one of the world’s most fascinating engineering feats.

🇨🇷 Costa Rica

Costa Rica lived up to its reputation for incredible nature, but it also reminded me that popular destinations don’t always match every travel style. Looking back, there are a few things I’d plan differently, especially without renting a car.

🇳🇮 Nicaragua

Nicaragua ended up being one of the biggest surprises of the trip. Granada became the perfect home base, León delivered nonstop adventure, and the country offered incredible value without feeling overly touristy.

🇸🇻 El Salvador

El Salvador challenged nearly every expectation I had before arriving. From colorful towns and volcanic landscapes to surfing beaches and welcoming locals, it quickly became one of the countries I’d recommend most to adventurous travelers.
